I don't know if this is a bug or intentional behavior, but I'll consider it a bug as it's unexpected from my perspective as a user.

It seems that gifs aren't supported in posts. A static image (jpg, png) can be posted from an external URL, but not a gif. It loads as an image icon with a red "X".

For example:

Don't know if it's because the gif is an external URL, or just the file type.

@Elli - It appears as Xenforo is attempting to wrap the url around media tags, so when you use the image tags, it's breaking it. This is what it's probab;ly trying to do:

Code:
[img][media]https://media.giphy.com/media/DM9n9fNry8tq0/giphy.gif[/media][/img]
If you post just the direct link to the gif, it wraps the url around the media tags and treats it differently. It's possible FP has the Giphy plugin from Themehouse too, I don't know. @Malcolmjr96 can probably confirm the same.

Code:
https://media.giphy.com/media/DM9n9fNry8tq0/giphy.gif

That is so antithetical to BBCode that I didn't even try pasting the URL by itself. Like it wasn't even a thought in my mind. Does XenForo always add media tags without user input?

Test with a Tenor gif, URL by itself and in an img tag:

Ok, so it's a Giphy thing. I think you're right about it being a plugin, or maybe because Giphy is an "Approved site" from the Media Insert button.

Just place the link in the thread, you don't need to surround it or anything.
