On DigitalPoint and some other big websites, they use it to rank a website's power much as Google PageRank once did. Note, to my knowledge, page authority tells about the power of specific pages, while domain authority refers to a whole website's ranking ability.

Anyhow, PA when seen on the web probably refers to an average of PA, cause each page has something different.

Domain Authority is a metric created by Moz.com as a more accurate indication of the value site. Like PageRank, it is a logarithmic calculation of the authority of the site. Rising from a low 30 to 35 will be easier on this scale than rising from a high 80 to 85.

PageRank is an algorithm created by Google founder Larry Page and named after him. It’s a simple step of links and link justice. Google looks at a given site and includes the number of links pointing to that site.
