It only takes a quick glance at the histories of the most famous companies and internet giants to see the benefits of sharing websites with family, friends, school peers, and local businesses. It wasn’t too long ago that Facebook began as a poorly written social network in the dorms of Harvard and quickly spread through word of mouth. Maybe we would still be on Myspace if Mark Zuckerberg had kept it all to himself. It’s not uncommon to hear about the most famous forums and discussion boards in the hallways of middle schools, high schools, and colleges. And in today’s age, we obviously all hear about exciting social, news, and other interesting apps for our pocket buzzing phones. So, why is it that so many webmasters hide their websites from the people they know in real life?

It’s 2019 and if Reddit or 4chan being mainstream enough to make the headlines isn’t enough, perhaps we should look back at the much older public forums of Rome for inspiration. We’ll get to that later, but...

I kind of wish that telling my friends and family did any good for Christianity Haven...but with the exception of a few sign ups at the beginning, they haven't supported me like I expected. I've even appealed to them on Facebook for help and the only ones who stop into the site are friends I've never met from another Christian Forum and those were only brief visits.

Word of mouth is always good advertising but you have to think of who your clientele is as well. I have a boatload of Atheist friends and family who rip into Christians left and right on Facebook so I can't expect them to take me seriously when I ask for people to join the site and post.

Family & friends doesn't help at all that's why most of us doesn't bother telling. Family says most of the time why? how much that cost you? what is your point in doing it? Does it earn income for you? it's time waster.

Friends well if you know them you can tell if they won't care!

I understand, but it's not just about whether or not your family joins. It's about taking pride in your work even if some don't understand it.

It just seems that in general, forum owners specifically hide their projects from family and friends a lot more than perhaps bloggets or business owners. I wrote this article as a passion piece for being proud of hard work, and telling the world about it - even if it doesn't bring in new members.
