What types of forums you want to affiliate with (can be any): Most sites or forums. However, this must be a three-way exchange.
What is a 3-way exchange?
Consider this. There are three sites, site A, site B, and site C. Essentially, site A has a link to site B, site B to site C, and site C to site A. Site A does not contain a link to site C, site C does not contain a link to site B, and site B does not contain a link to site A. That in a nutshell is a 3-way exchange.
Why a 3-link exchange?
Back in the day, Google used to love link exchanges. It used to be a win-win situation for both sites. Now, things have changed. What Google used to love, is now something Google doesn't seem to love. Basically, it's harder for Google to detect these sort of exchanges. Below is a more detailed explanation of a three-way exchange.

Anyways, below I've got a couple of tables for those who are interested. I don't know if a rel="nofollow" link to the site you shouldn't link to will be allowed.
