A forum for people living with depression

Re: Life Without Limits - Learn to live with depression

I've had the forum professionally reviewed and we got 86/100!
For the full review see below. The only negative feedback was the lack of active members, so we're advertising, advertising advertising!! We're trying to get new active members (ie. Not Spammers) to come and join.

Thank you to all our members so far and we continue to welcome you to the forum!

First Impressions - (Out of 20)

From first glance of your forum, it looks fantastic. Everything looks nice and well done, and I have no doubt that others would say the same! I'm no fan of phpbb, but the skin you're using is one of my favorites, and the banner matches a long with it perfectly. In addition, everything is neatly organized and it is easy to navigate through your site. I honestly can't think of anything that needs to be worked on with the way your site looks! Great work!

(Scored 20/20)

Site Layout - (Out of 20)

Looking pretty good. You have a good number of boards & categories, and it looks like all of them have been getting posts in them regularly. The only thing I would change is the "Life Challenges" board. I personally believe you have much too many sub-forums. I would remove a lot of them, if not all of them as the sub-forums aren't getting much posts in them anyways. Same goes with Mutual Support. I would just have 1 forum for them all. Not a sub-forum for each category. Everything else is fine though! 😀

(Scored 16/20)

Forum Statistics - (Out of 20)

I see that your forum started in roughly July of 08. I'm going to have to be blatantly honest, but don't take anything personal. 107 members & 3500+ posts for a forum that age is well, terrible. Many people can achieve those statistics within a month or two, so I would really suggest doing a lot more post exchanges. Advertise on related forums. Tell your friends to join. 🙂

(Scored 10/20)

Staff Moderation - (Out of 20)

After taking a quick look around the forum, the posts, and what not, I could not find any spam or inappropriate posts. What can I say? You're doing a great job with the moderation. Keep it up!

(Scored 20/20)

Spelling and Grammar - (Out of 20)

Spelling and grammar seems to be absolutely fine. All proper use of commas, periods, and capitals are in view. Good job!

(Scored 20/20)

Total Score - (Out of 100)

Final Remarks:

Your forum seems to be doing fine, with lots of posts coming in daily and recently. Just advertise on related forums. If you have lots of eFriends, get them to join as that's what you forum is all about. Good luck with it and I hope it continues to grow! 🙂

What was most liked about the website/forums:

The design. It was impressive! Probably one of the best phpbb forums I've ever seen!

What was disliked most about the website/forums:

The statistics. Very low for a forum that age!

Ok gang , a while ago I mentioned that I wanted to write a play about mental health problems and see if I could get it up and running, with the possibility of MIND or some other charity sponsoring it.
The ideas stage has now been written, the plot is set and I'm ready to finally start writing. And that's where I need YOU! no, not you, YOU! I need your views on mental illness, on care in the community, and I need your tales of experiences with mental health problems. I want this play to ring true and to tell a story about the kinds of problems that are going on in every class and every place in this country and indeed the world!

So please post in this thread or PM me with your opinions and anecdotes. I wont use your words verbatim, or use you as a character in the play but I want to use real peoples experiences as a basis for the different themes and issues in the play.

Please please get involved, if this becomes a reality, as I believe it can, your help could mean reaching out and helping others with mental health problems.
It doesn't matter if you are a sufferer or a carer, your opinions and experiences are all valid!!!!!

The aim of the forum is to support you in your everyday life, we are not professionals (and clearly say so) but we do, between us, have a lot of knowledge of coping techniques.

We aim to share experiences, websites and general support networks with you to help you live with mental illness and realise that you can have a wonderful life, whether you suffer from it yourself or know of someone who does.

What you can do

Talk ~ Get your problems out in the open, seek support and advice from a professional and try to beat the buggering mental illness!

Listen ~ Any form of depression can lead to being stuck in a rut, physically and mentally being stuck in a negative catch 22 often prevents you from being open to new ideas from loved ones and professionals.
Always remember that a conversation is a two way thing.

Be part of the forum ~ Please don't ever feel alone, even if you feel you are whinging, sometimes just letting it out helps immensely.

Tell others ~ Please tell others about the forum, lets get lots of members and share life, whether they suffer themselves or know of someone who does.

Introducing the Life without limits forum.

The aim of the forum is to support you in your everyday life, we are not professionals but we do have a lot of knowledge of coping techniques.

We aim to share experiences, websites and general support networks with you to help you live with mental illness and realise that you can have a wonderful life, whether you suffer from it yourself or know of someone who does.

It is important to realise that depression is nothing to be ashamed of, it is an illness and it needs treatment, just as if you had broken your leg or you had a chest infection.

It is also important to not bottle things up, talking and sharing experiences (along with support and medication if necessary) is one of the best ways to treat your depression, you are not alone and it is vital that you realise that.

The forum was set up by Annie and Mike and together with Sereph, Mymble and a couple of very helpful mentors, they run the forum and make it what it is today.

We all have first-hand experiences of dealing with depression and we decided we wanted to help others by sharing these experiences and talking about our own personal concerns.

Over the short time the forum has been open it has grown a lovely community, full of people that deal with their own illness, while still managing to have fun and support each other.

At Life without limits, we help, support and stand by each other in times of need.

Re: Life Without Limits - Learn to live with depression

The main forum ranks are based on the number of posts a member makes. However, due to the fact we have a few members that clearly are trying to help out the community by answering, in a most helpful manner, to our members questions, we have added a few 'additional' special ranks rewarding them for their work.

In addition to these ranks, we have given special privileges to these few users to help moderate the forums within our given guidelines. These people are something between a special user and forum moderator of our site - or if you'd like, 'superusers'. These will be called 'Mentors' and are here initially to help look after newer members of the forum.

Of course, the selection of our 'superusers' will not only be the number of posts, but their general behaviour, matureness, how long they've been members of our community and a few other things we would like to keep secret and it would be something we would discuss as a team before inviting the member into his/her superuser costume 😉 🙂

If anyone is interested in helping us out at the forum and be given special privileges such as Locking and moving topics, then contact a member of staff for details 🙂

Thank you

Re: Life Without Limits - Learn to live with depression

http://lifewithoutlimitsforum.com

So, about the forum:

I started the forum last year with Mike, Anne and Kate. I was suffering hugely with depression at the time and had been signed off from work for a long time.

We had the idea to start a retreat for people who were also suffering, not only with depression but with other mental illnesses and try and teach them and others that we are still normal people. We also recognised - quite early on - that their loved ones also needed support and to have their questions answered.

Over time, people have come and gone and the forum is still up and running - albeit quietly at the moment, I now have Mymble, Charlie, Mike and Irene there to help me and some wonderful members who make the forum a fun place to be.

If you are suffering yourself, or want advice about a loved one or friend who you think is showing signs of being depressed...or maybe you just fancy signing up to a fun relaxed forum where we support each other regardless of gender, race, political stance or religious views then come along and say hi!

We are non judgemental, we are not professionals but we can give you some advice, some professional websites, a steer in the right direction and a hand to hold as you travel on your journey to getting yourself well again.
