This ones a classic (sarcasm): 😀

Instructor #1: "I ought to backhand you right in your teeth. How is that for anxiety?"

More

Instructor #2: “I am gonna beat your butt for sure and Owen you’re gonna get one just just cause.”

This one I could punch her right in her face.”

A different instructor in the same class.

Instructor #2: “You got to go pee-pee? Pee-pee? Or do you not have to go pee-pee and you just want to go **** *** in a chair?”

Instructor #2: “I’m going to pull your hair until you start crying.”

Instructor #3: “Don’t throw it. Don’t throw. You animal you.”

Instructor #2: “Yep. You wench.”

Instructor #2: “You’re like a pygmy. You’re like a pygmy thing.”

Instructor #2: “How your tears dried up so quickly crocodile.”

Instructor #3: “And then she wants to destroy everything in sight.”

Instructor #2: “I’m a knock you out.”

Instructor #1: “Growl at me. I dare you and you won’t get one. Go ahead. There is nothing says I have to give you a snack. Nothing.”

Instructor #2: “Looks like you get nothing Owen. Ha ha. Sorry buddy.”

O.K. - where do they find these people? These are supposed to be enlightened teacher types?

Teachers are people too and sadly a lot of people are like that.

I see people are only human - but I wonder if the worst types seem to fall into these jobs - mainly because "nice person evolution" puts them at the bottom, lol.

What exactly are you getting at? Are you saying only terrible people work in severe/profound classrooms? The job is beneath people who are good? I'm confused by the point of this topic. The actions of those three are reprehensible but they definitely do not represent others in the profession.

Well, it was at least three teachers mentioned in the article. Anyway, of course, most special ed teachers are good - just like most people are good in most "hard to find workers" jobs. But the point being, bad apples have more leverage in keeping work - because nobody wants to do it.

Do you realize that it's highly likely it was one teacher and two instructional aides? That's one classroom. I get your point that "nobody wants to do it" as we are a critical need area but that has little to do with people keeping their jobs. In WV, teachers have a large amount of protection especially if they are on a continuing contract. It's incredibly difficult to fire a teacher that isn't performing up to standard assuming they have at least 3 years under their belts. Furthermore, this incident was only caught because of a sound recorder in the class sent by a parent. The most likely scenario is that it was kept within the confines of the classrooms which allowed these three to get away with such hateful remarks.

Now, this is no different than a corrupt police officer, corrupt forum administrator, corrupt manager, etc. You have bad apples. They exist and plague every position. This doesn't mean that states and county school districts allow bad people to work with high risk populations. The fault lies in those three but I can assure you they weren't permitted to perform that way. They just did it and thought they could get away with it.
