What are your views on this? I mean add pointless rubbish into a member's signature? Do you leave that forum or just change it.

I've never experienced this, nor even have seen this happen.

I wonder where you got the idea for this thread. 😛

I would just change it if it was just a joke and the admin(s) are my friends or something, but if the admin is trying to patronize me, then I would probably leave.

I've been on forums where they have something like, "member of such and such site for <insert amount of days/years here>. I have mixed feelings about that. I would personally rather add my own signature rather than have someone doing it for me. The only excuse I can see to changing someone's signature is if they had something inappropriate or offensive. Otherwise I feel you shouldn't be messing with other members' signatures at all.

It annoys me. Especially when the admin does it and does not send you PM notifying you that they removed something (or added something, which has happened once or twice).

I agree with that and would only edit someone's signature if it was to remove something that breaks the forum rules. A signature is part of a person's identity on a forum and it would seem inappropriate to edit it. However, if someone did it to me as a joke I would take it in that spirit and would not leave the forum, unless of course they put something particularly offensive or damaging in my sig.

Adding something to a persons signature without their consent is a big no, for one thing it could be something they are totally against.

For another it would make me wonder what else they could do to a profile.

As an admin if I saw a siggie I thought was wrong, I would request that the poster remove it, rather than doing it myself first.

I had a user edit his own sig and then claim (in public) that I did it and was picking on him. Little troll (him and 7 others) would always play the victim and try their best to undermine the site & staff.

Got real tired of it, real quick. Banned him and his little friends.

I can see this, only if it's part of a competition (i.e., you enter the tournament, one of the risks is someone gaining the ability to have change a sig one time) but other then that and the obvious "take out inappropriate content", it's a no-no and really would turn me away from a forum.

I'd ban anyone who tried to frame staff. Depending on the severity it'd be temp or perm, but there'd be a ban involved.

Only time I edit sigs is to remove something inappropriate. Never to add anything.

I'm sorry, but if I caught anybody trying to get our staff in trouble for something they didn't do, such as editing a signature, I'd go for a straight-out permanent ban. Lying in that shape and form is not acceptable and certainly not tolerated. Especially if they're only trying to make trouble and calling attention to themselves.

Never happened to me before and I will not do it to anybody either. The right thing would be to ask the person if they would add or remove something from their signature. I personally will feel very violated.

I was on a forum once where they gave obnoxious flashing signature to people who were breaking the signature rules, and removed their permissions to change it. They gave a fair warning that they were going to do it, and it got the point across fairly quickly. Besides, it was absolutely hilarious when people started complaining about it, because some of the sigs they had before were massive (15 liners with images)..

Then I was on another forum, that used a script to change everyone's signatures to a really obnoxious bright pink "Total Lady Gaga Fan!!!11!!1!" graphic for April Fools Day, to match the "Lady Gaga" theme that they put up on the forum on that day onl. All sigs were reverted at midnight GMT -5 though.

If a member of the team altered my profile in any way without prior notification, I'd simply leave and never return.

Unless it violates the rules, then it's something I dislike. Just adding random stuff to someone's signatures like perhaps ads. Don't like it one bit.
