Advantages and disadvantages of PC gaming?

PC gaming has become increasingly popular in recent times, with many gamers opting to play their favorite titles on a computer rather than a console. While there are certainly advantages to PC gaming, there are also some disadvantages to consider. In this thread, let's discuss the pros and cons of PC gaming and share our experiences.

Advantages of PC Gaming:

  • Better graphics and performance: One of the biggest advantages of PC gaming is the ability to run games at higher graphical settings and frame rates than consoles. A high-end gaming PC can provide much better visuals and smoother gameplay than a console.
  • Customization: PC gamers have the ability to customize their gaming experience to suit their preferences. They can adjust graphics settings, use mods to modify games, and customize controls to their liking.
  • Access to a wide range of games: While consoles have a selection of exclusive titles, PC gamers have access to a wider range of games thanks to the vast library of games available on platforms like Steam.
  • Upgradability: PC gamers can upgrade their hardware over time to keep up with the latest games and technology. This allows them to get better performance without having to buy a whole new system.

Disadvantages of PC Gaming:

  • Higher cost: Building a gaming PC can be expensive, especially if you want high-end components. Consoles are often cheaper in comparison, making them a more accessible option for many gamers.
  • Technical knowledge required: PC gaming requires some technical knowledge to get started. You need to know how to build a PC, install drivers, and troubleshoot issues that may arise.

I don't see the point when I can just go buy an Xbox Series X, which is what I did lol.

I have a Series S but I barely play it much now after I had to drop game pass due to budget reasons. I am tempted to resub for PC game pass honestly or console game pass

I never did the Game Pass thing. However, I just grabbed ESO over the weekend. It was on sale for 6 bucks and isn't making me do Xbox Live until Wednesday. 10 dollars a month for Live don't sound bad at all. I played the Skyrim for years after it came out so I figured this would be a reasonable purchase for me.

I tried ESO and just found it wasn't for me at all.

I've tried it once before and quit playing because it was so different than Skyrim and the other games. I'm seeing it in a different light now.
 
I've always preferred PC to consoles but I think anybody thinking about moving from console -> PC these days is mad. It made perfect sense years ago but every PC port released these days is glued together with manure, and you have to pay like 3000$ to even have a chance of running them?

Like I bought Hogwarts for 60 quid, I've a watercooled 5900x and (admittedly rather weak) Radeon VII, game was an absolute stutter fest with no difference between the highest and lowest settings. FSR makes a slight difference but not enough.
They kept releasing updates for the game, none of them actually improved the situation for me and each time they updated it my save file got deleted from Steam Cloud.
