I'm currently trying Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal on my older computer. Ubuntu 11.04 seems stable, fast, and easy to use for my needs which usually just involve browsing the web, editing php, html, and text files, word processing, uploading files to my websites with Filezilla, and using Gimp Image editor.

Ubuntu starts up faster, run better, is more stable and shutdowns faster on the same computer I run/dual-boot Windows 7 Home Premium 32Bit with only 1GB of RAM, a Intel 1.8 GHz CPU, onboard Intel video, onboard sound, 320 GB SATA hard drive.

Plus, with all my 3rd-party programs like Kompozer, Filezilla, VLC, recordmydesktop, xVidCap, GIMP, Chrome, Opera, Audacity, TrueCrypt, etc and Ubuntu OS, I'm only using 6.4 GB of storage space on my hard drive.

I like the new left sidebar/dock introduced in Ubuntu 11.04 to put shortcuts/launchers of programs which I use a lot on the left side of the desktop.

The left sidebar also automatically hides when you open a program like Firefox in full screen mode. If you want it to appear again, you just move the cursor to the left edge of your screen.

It is also cool how I can use the built-in search engine to search for pre-installed programs instead of the menu system in previous version of Ubuntu like 10.10.

The Ubuntu Software Center program is easy to use for installing and removing programs on Ubuntu 11.04.

It is also nice Ubuntu 11.04 uses screen space better then previous version of Ubuntu like 10.04 since there is no longer a tool bar at the bottom of the desktop. There is just one tool bar on the top.

I don't like where Ubuntu is going anymore, give me OpenBSD instead as a nice, secure alternative.

Tried it and yet again it gives ot many problems.

My main beef being that stupid dock that is not movable or removable unless you do some intense editing ofcourse 😉.

It also seems this version did not work with my sound while the prevoius did. Which is another reason i hate ubuntu things break every freaking release..

I have had fedora of all distros work better after an upgrade then ubuntu.

@Richard OpenBSD as a desktop OS is not to good an idea. I would understand freebsd or PCbsd, but not openbsd.

I really don't like ubuntu 11.04, biggest reason is it's a pain to find any of the system programs, like users and groups and those kinds of system things. If you don't know the name of it, it's pretty hard to find.

@NBK, where you logged in as root? the program they use for sound doesn't allow running sound as root.

Not the biggest fan of the new interface. Switched back to Ubuntu Classic myself.

No I was not,and if they don't allow root to use sound that in itself is a lol fail problem .

I am running it on a laptop. Only issue I have with it so far is the wireless driver doesn't work. Not sure if they have updated it yet. Have not check in 2 weeks.
