Has anyone been in a conversation with someone and then you go on your phone on facebook or something and then see ads for something that was discussed in your conversation? Like something you have not searched on Google or anything, but rather just talked about verbally?

Recently I had discussed death and caskets in a conversation and then while browsing facebook, ads for caskets were being displayed, and for the record...no I wasn't searching google for caskets either.

lol Glad you cleared that up. But I believe it. Everyone thought I was crazy that I would put a piece of tape over my webcam and what not. I was right. I'm always right.😎

I've also been working on a jeep that my grandfather had down on the farm up in the woods. Before I started working on it, I talked about it after we pulled it out... Guess what... Jeep ads and restoration ads popped up on my facebook.

My hubby put a piece of electrical tape over the webcam on my laptop. He knew that there were people out there that can hack into those things (he doesn't know anyone personally, he just knew that there are people out there in the world that will do something like that) so he put that piece of electrical tape on there for me so I don't have to worry about that whenever I use my laptop. I never take that off because I don't ever use that camera on my laptop anyway.

Same here. Had this laptop for years. Never once used the webcam. But it's nice to know I'm not the only one.

Beautiful Jeep. Always wanted a Wrangler. Drove my boss' once and it made me want to go mudding.

One of the reasons why I don't own a phone. Also, if you were to discuss anything raunchy, what would you be expected with after that? 😱

Yeah, my hubby put that on there as soon as I got this laptop. I've had mine for several years and I've never used the webcam on it either. Even if I have to use it for some reason, I can take that tape off and put a new piece of tape back on there as soon as I'm done using the webcam but I doubt I'll end up using it.

Hmmm. Cops are too "spread out" to bust people via that method. However, though, they bust people in other ways - so if you're into crime, you should know where!

Anyway, some people are into thinking we are being watched and listened to - but it's mostly an exaggeration of "conspiracy-theory" types.

That's just how ads work nowadays. No cause for alarm but it can comical.

Former FBI director James Comey once said to disable laptop webcams by putting tape over them. These webcams are always there and usually don't have obvious ways to tell if they're on or not. Someone could be tapped into your webcam (provided you're connected to the internet) and you'd not know. It happened with a lot of people...

I think it's a good idea to cover webcams also. And yes, my webcam is most assuredly covered.

Additionally my phone is in a pouch most of the time so it's camera can't see anything unless I decide to pull it out.

Well, what's the point, unless they're female and then, well, there's a chance she will be changing in her room - but most of the stuff is in the bathroom. 🙂

From what I'm reading so far, I'm scared. What makes it even worse is that I'm on Windows 10, which is Spyware. :androidnailbiting:(Mini-Android scared)

I'm among the electrical tape over the camera club!

I haven't had the experience on my phone (because I have a limited data plan and a short life battery that makes my phone almost useless), but I have had it happen with Facebook. I was talking about a candy from my childhood to my husband and it popped up the next day in a FB ad. We don't have Alexa or any of those devices in the house.

I understood your points perfectly. It happens like that sometimes when you talked or even think about something when talking on phone, it will just keep popping up when you started surfing the internet. I have experienced it in the past and it still happens to me.
