Are those 3rd-party fans for game consoles really needed?

I see a lot of these 3rd party console cooler fan accessories, but I sort of think they are a waste of 20-30 bucks since a regular fan you use to cool yourself during the summer cost about $20 - 30 dollars and you can use it to blow air directly on your console if your console was actually over heating.

Plus, I never experience a over heating issue with my PS2 or Xbox 360 yet, and I play it for hours each day.

The added noise probably would not be very nice to listen to either.

I guest if you put your consoles in a hot, poor air circulation room or on carpet then a fan might help.

Do you guys own 3rd-party fans for your consoles?

Well it depends on length of gameplay, if you play all day, you need an extra cooler..

It also depends on if you are picky. I'd never buy one of these, waste of money.

Doesn't matter how long I play my Xbox, it stays cool, so technically that really is not true :great:

As does mine, I think it depends on the chip, I have a jasper chip now which keeps my xbox cool but the old 360s used to get really hot after a couple of hours.

I have a Jasper chip on my Xbox 360 as well. I keep my console on top of a table in a cool room, so it gets plenty of air circulation.

I also live in Canada, so it is cold for most of the year.

NO! You never want to do that!!! Never EVER put a fan next to your console, The point of that fan is to take the heat out not in! A regular fan would put it into the system hence making it all over heat and sooner or later RROD OR YLOD 🙂. Therefor never do that, ooh and never put next to a window.

Also, some 3rd party fans will void your Microsoft warranty. Just a heads up, never used one myself.

Some games make them overheat. I read online that older games do sometimes.

Also, fans do die or after a while don't work as fast or function correctly 😛
