Does anyone here get a significant amount of traffic to their website by writing and submitting 200-500 word articles related to their website category to

I heard some people say Article Marketing is not very effective and to focus on social bookmarking and social media like Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter, but I find it harder to turn your friends into regular website visitors or members since Facebook and other sites warns member that they are going to an external website like example.com and I believe people on Twitter and Facebook rarely visit people's links which they post on their FB wall or profile.
