Automatically shorten link of new post and share

At a WordPress blog I work on our new posts are posted automatically to Twitter; if we set up a URL shortener would it be possible for the new post to have it's link automatically shortened and shared on Twitter in the same format?

You can use Shareaholic. It is not fully automatic because you will have to click the twitter share button after you publish the post.

Another option is http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-to-twitter/

Just use jetpack addon in wordpress(which is an addon from the team wordpress itself) and use the publicize feature to configure the automatic sharing of new posts into the social media profile you want. This will get shortened using wp.me shortener!

I use po.st (type it in). I have to manually click on the facebook, twitter and other buttons after publishing a post but it's not hard, it's just a click. It also put the fixed share buttons on the side of my pages for others to share as well. Also, you can make money from sharing too. Worth using imo.

But why do that when it can be done automatically. I mean jetpack has a lot of awesome features and it is from wordpress(official plugin).
I don't see any reasons why one would choose not to use it lol!

All the plugin and scripts I know use third party URL Shortener. If you would like to use your own, you probably have make plugin.

Agree, thats not as hard as it sounds. Trust me when I say this, I have coded a plugin for wordpress, its quite easy!

I do not know if this is possible or not, but you can try edit the Shareaholic plugin so it will have your custom URL Shortener as an option in the "Which URL Shortener?".
