Best Free Forum Software for Beginner Forum

Invisionfree, Zetaboards, or Jcink. Those are what I started with, and I was able to catch onto things pretty quickly. I started on Invisionfree, and now I'm admin on a vBulletin board and I've grasped things pretty quickly.

If your looking for ease and easy customization, I would go with mybb or zb.

Phpbb can be alittle hard for beginners to install mods and make template edits.

I agree with Zimm, ProBoards is totally easy for beginners. However I will say if you plan on going far with your forum and want the extra customization ProBoards doesn't offer, than you should really think about MyBB. MyBB is pretty easy for beginners, however the support there differs, it stinks and then you can get a really super support person to help you out, but it's a 50% chance. 😛

For a beginner, ZetaBoards is a great forum host. There's no need to have your own host, and there's an intuitive ACP and member front end. You can't move it off ZB, but once you're on, most people tend to find they want to stay on. Further down the line however, moving over to myBB or something similar may be good if you need access to the database.

MyBB would be a very good beginner forum software. It is a simple software, but a powerful one once you become experienced with it due to the endless customization you can perform.

I would suggest one of these two free hosts:

http://ProPhpBB.com << Phpbb
http://icyboards.com << MyBb

Both offer quite good softwares. Onto the actual question, MyBb is quite a customisable software with many themes and plugins, lots of plugins come default with icyboards and allows you to add your own styles, no adverts except the ACP login and the banner ad which does not mention hosted by icyboards at all.

Phpbb on the other hand is also quite simple to use with all the titles making it easy to navigate.

Overall both are a good starter software and I personally recommend both.

I think MyBB is a wonderful place to start for beginners. However if they have no clue on how to set up the forum itself, I suggest they check out Icyboards for hosting. I also recommend Zetaboards for beginners as well, the ACP is very easy to navigate and the support team are very friendly too.

I am thinking of starting a forum, could you please tell me the best free forum software and why its good (pros and cons)

I think it's PHPBB, I started building a forum with it and really it's good one for beginners, easy to customize your theme and manage. I would suggest this.

When your forum is popular with more members and posts, you can switch to other forum softwares by using a script to upgrade.

thanks your share, its good!

I say MyBB, SMF is crap so STAY away from them

SMF has uploaders which can be good for beginners who cannot use an FTP. I mean, if they can't use an FTP, then they're going to have to hire someone which costs money.

If they can not use FTP then they have no idea on the server side or how to run. FTP is easy and simple.

You can use MyBB for starting a forum. MyBB is a free PHP and MySQL based discussion system. It uses an intuitive discussion board structure, so that visitors can easily start and reply to discussions and markup their posts.
