I heard this online and I'm skeptical. However, I did hear on an old movie of a person claiming to learn English from Police Academy movies (a comedy). :wtf:

I say they be more into playing the game then learning. depends what the game is? It can be done but what if it's an 18+ game with swear words?

First word to learn would be a$$

I could understand learning English from movies & TV shows, I just don't think you can that much with video games really.

English can learn from video game only, me walking example, yes?

It must be a pretty good game if you can learn English from it - at that level. 🙂

I too am skeptical about it. I'm sure they can learn some English from playing video games but most likely not enough to speak it fluently.

I think it is more realistic for a movie addict to learn English by watching English movies every day. That was the statement of Attorney Laxa, a movie producer here. He said that those in the rural areas who speak a different dialect learned Filipino by watching the local movies. I guess that can also apply to learning English thru the movies as the medium. With video games, hmm, I don't think it is possible.

It depends what level you want to reach if it is just basic things it might be helpful. You will learn gaming terms for sure though.

More than possible and I know a few people which picked up most of their English through playing games. If the game's a multiplayer game where you're constantly socialising with other people on it then you're bound to learn a lot.

It is possible, but only passive language (reading and maybe listening) will be taught, but player will remain unable to speak or write.

Play games, write online, voice chat, and one will learn. (´・ω・`)

Yeah, that's right! Communication is one of the best ways to learn and practice a new language.
