Everyone knows about the Panda penalty for duplicate content. And, in a way, you might consider PLR (private label rights articles) to be copied content as it's available on other sites.

But is it acceptable to use PLR on a forum, considering there are so many thousands of other pages, in addition to the PLR content? Would it get the entire site penalized or maybe just those pages with the PLR would not rank as highly as others on site?

The advantage of using PLR be be how you could still get fresh content for the tutorials or article section of your forum even if you don't have a regular staff content writer.

I think it is better to rewrite those articles instead of using those unedited.

spin the article will be the best option to use a PLR article. It's still working, at least to get a fresh content. =)

@similar999

Actually spinning will be even worse. You will probably end up with very crap articles.

It is much better to rewrite the articles manually.

Rewrite content or just choose new topic which is related to your old article and Write the new article using some part of your article (still you have to do some changes in part you have taken from old article). I think this is better way of doing rather than using automated re-writer, which makes your content messy .
