Where is the cheapest place to buy domains? Are they reliable?

Cheapest doesn't mean best.

For example, GoDaddy will sell you a dot com for $2.99 and then raise the price to $14.99 a year. For domain privacy, they'll charge you $7.99 a year.

Register.com will sell you a dot com for $5 (new customer) but for two years they raise the price to $70! For domain privacy, they'll charge you $11.00 a year.

To me that's sneaky. Get you in the door for a cheap price and then stick it to you when the door closes.

If I can promote my own domain sales, for a dot com I charge $12.95 for the first year, but for each year thereafter I only charge $12 more. For domain privacy I only charge $2.50 a year.

Make sure you research a domain provider before you purchase.

I would definitely say Name Cheap. Especially in special offers (first year) and even normal domains are pretty cheap and very reliable.

You can consider IX for the same, IXWebHosting comes with several unique features that other web hosts do not offer. You can use Hosting coupons to avail the discount

The name say it, NameCheap. I agree with what @Skyon Archer said. Cheapest dont mean good.. they charge low for first year and high of the subsequent years. However, NameCheap can be trusted.. we know they wont do that.

Why is godaddy cheap on first year but after it so costly, which ones good for renewal costs? i will transfer all my domains there

Just read this entire topic, Scarface.

I lower my price after the first year. Namecheap also, typically, lowers their as well. This is not the normal SOP (standard operating procedure).

Usually, most registrars get you to buy for a really low price the first year and then stick it to you the next, or subsequent, year(s). Also, they get you when adding stuff like Domain Privacy Protection, email forwarding, domain forwarding and such.

Your best bet is to take a "test purchase" of any domain registrar you are considering to deal with. Search for a fictitious domain, like asdjfadiewqoeczz.com. See what their price is for one year. Then select two or more years. Look at how their price changes for each additional year. Look at how much they want for extras. Do they charge for domain forwarding or DNS management? What's their price for Domain Privacy?

Comparative shopping is important.

I'm not sure myself, but do stay away from those companies that buy recently expired domains and want to resell them for loads of money..

When I was looking into another domain for my forum after I moved, (it wasn't something I was looking for since I already had 2, but when my host took over those domains, it lead to a lot of issues.. so I switched them back to their original provider and started looking for a new domain for my new hosting..) I remember seeing a domain that was due for expiration in September and the company that owned it was selling it for almost $1k.

So, after I picked up my bottom lip, and swept up what was left of my jaw, I remembered that my current host offered me a free domain with my account for life.

So, I went for that instead.

That aside though, I've heard good things about NameCheap, I've just never used them, and I've heard a lot of bad things about GoDaddy, which might be the reason they advertise their cheap prices and their ads flood webpages with pictures of celebs that endorse them.

Black Angel, watch out for those "free domains for life" deals. Sure, you get a free domain for life . . . life is defined as "for as long as you have a hosting account with us, but if you don't pay or cancel your hosting account, you loose the domain as well".

😀

Absolutely, I asked them if I would be able to transfer my domain if I decided to cancel for whatever reason and they said yes, and that it would cost $14 (which was what I paid to renew my other 2 domains) and they would transfer it to the new provider and after that the provider would have it like it had my other 2 domains..

I even got recorded the call, so that I have a record of the support supervisor saying this both on the phone and in the email, just in case.

rather then going for cheapest i just pay the same price every year at name.com and have instant domain propagation on my canadian based hosting. that is all i care. Godaddy makes you wait 24 to 72 hours for domains to propagate.

NameCheap is the cheapest place to purchase a domain if you looking to get one. They provide excellent services I have heard some good reviews and feedback about NameCheap.

"Cheapest" - considering most sellers out there will trick you into paying more eventually, I don't think any of them are truly "cheap."

I Hate go-daddy imo, Their such a rip off honestly. You pay $.99 for a domain, But then they make you fill out tons of survery's and proof proving your a resident and all this bull-*** witch is just a hassle. I'd rather NameCheap
