On many forums where I'm active, there are many younger forum staff members (average age 13-15 years old) and these people are usually very helpful and contribute a lot to the forum. The advantage of having a younger person on staff is how they might relate to other younger forum members and provide unique perspective the older forum members might not have. What are your thoughts on having younger staff members? Do you allow this? And, what is the minimum age you allow for a forum staff member?

The minimum age I require when hiring forum staff is 13. From personal experience younger staff members bring out the kids in all of us old folks. They bring insight on things that we as adults would never think of and they are active little buggers. I'd hire younger staff for positions like global moderators, mods, community teams, design/dev teams etc. As admins, I'm set with my self and three other's two of which I've known for many many years and another of whom just started with us. All of us except for 1 are in our 20's The youngest of us is 16 but amazing at what he does.

13 is my minimum too, and the laws if i remember correctly!

I love having younger people, as a young person myself I find it easier to work with them for one thing but I also find that many are infact friendly and more approachable.

Of course, I'm not saying older staff member are not, it's just what i've experienced.

I'd certainly never stop someone becoming a staff member just because they were young anyway!

Young staff members bring a social feel to forum. But older staff members handle things like fight between members a bit better.

So i would say a mixture of old and young guys would be better for a forum. And the end of the day, age doesn't matter at all, as long as they could maintain your forum as it is supposed to be.

I would have a 13 year old be on staff...they can help relate to a younger crowd.

It depends on the type of forum really.

If it is a social fun general forum, yes, if it is a business/professional forum I would not be as inclined to have a thirteen year old moderating.

It all depends on who your target audience is.
