When you debate universal health-care with someone in the US, a lot of times the opponent of it will bring up that in countries that have it, they hate it. I really would like an answer on this because the majority of members on this site are British so yeah.

Universal health care sucks! I'm proud to be an american where people are dieing because our country is run by greedy scum who care about no one but the corporations.

America F*** YEAH!

I do know that the British and Canadians have higher percentages of people who are satisfied with their health care. However, I'm also interested to know the perspectives of people from those countries.

YEAH! THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE AMERICA ARE THOSE GODLESS MODERATELY CONSERVATIVE DEMOCRATS WHO WANT UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE COMMUNISTS!

But in all seriousness Poland has the same thing. From what I can tell there aren't a lot of problems, apart from strikes but meh screw those doctors. Public hospitals aren't as good but you know who gives a feck about expensive hospitals if you can't pay for the treatment.

People love it, but hate it when waiting times are long. And I'm Canadian.

I should ask my parents what they thought about it 😛

Of course, they left Poland in the 80s because COMMUNISM SUCKS.

I know, right? My dad actually went to live in Austria with his cousins before getting on a plane to America with one suitcase and a friend 😛 My mom took a cruise with her family, lmao 😉

I'm British and I love our healthcare system. Maintaining good health should never be reserved for those who are rich enough - that's elitism at its worst.

Paying good health should never be reserved for those who are rich enough to subsidize the poor - that's elitism at its worst.

Sorry, I don't follow...?

Also, I think the fact that someone can be denied lifesaving treatment in America simply because they are unable to pay or get health insurance is fundamentally wrong.

America itself is fundamentally wrong.

I'm inclined to agree. I like the people, but the systems and ideals it's based on don't work.

The people are the reason those systems and ideals are in place. I get tired of looking around and seeing the subhuman products of conservative policies.

Really? From my experience, a lot of Americans (though incredibly conservative) are generally good people. I do, however, think that the Cold War, and McCarthyism in particular, has resulted in an incredibly conservative population, scared of the state and scared of any kind of social justice.

What I'm saying is that paying for health care should not be just for the rich. Just like everything socialism stands for, everything should be shared...in this case the cost as well.

It may be wrong, but who will pay for it? If everybody can get away for not paying at hospitals, why have health insurance? Why pay for something I can essentially get for free by having the rich subsidize me?
