Some forums allow the members to be able to use the signature area to advertise their websites, forums, blogs, or even services. This is a great way to help your members gain more exposure and also backlinks as well which will greatly help their sites and most of them will also place a link to your forum on their sites as well.
Do you allow advertising on signatures on your forum? If not, why did you choose to not allow this? Do you have a set amount of links they can have?
End of the day I want to have members that join to be happy and feel great and able to do what they want, so allowing more freedom in their signature is one of the methods. And so I do allow it 😉 At an end of the day I join other forums and do the same...
On Crafter Craze I allow it, but on Christianity Haven, we allow it, but not for selling a product and we expect that the member allows us to have a signature on their site so it balances out.
I have no problem in allowing users to advertise in signature. If you prohibit people from using ad on signatures, why would they post in your forum? A lot of people post on forums just because they can get some traffic.
I don't mind members using the signature section to advertise their forums - they get backlinks, and in return we typically get more activity as people only see your signature if you're active around the forum!
I allow folks to put their online forums, or blogs in their signature.
I do not allow commercial links or links to pages that are selling products, or anything affiliate related, and stuff like that. I feel like that is directly advertising and before I let you do that you need my permission and you need to pay me some money.
