So I started a new job in July that sometimes travels out of town, where I have to stay in a hotel for a week. I have a laptop that I take with me, but this week I've learned that not all hotels offer wifi.
So my question for everyone else is, do you use a wireless internet card for traveling from somewhere like Verizon?
I know Verizon has them, I just wanted to see my options.
How much do you pay a month for it and what does yours offer if you have one?
I heard in the US, there is a company called Freedompop which offers free 500MB of data monthly service, but you need to buy the wireless USB modem for $49.00 @ http://www.freedompop.com/devices/freedom-stick-bolt
I don't have a card since most places I go to have wifi, but my phone can become a hotspot so if I'm in need, I can just use that. I get unlimited data anyways, so I can make use of it when the wifi somewhere doesn't exist or isn't working.
Dial-up internet can also be a good option if you just need to check and reply to e-mail, or browse the web while at hotels. I think most hotels still have phone lines.
Dial-up internet is slow, but it costs between $5-10 a month, and most places have phone jacks which you can access to dial a number to use Dial-up internet.
I think dial-up also does not have data limits like cards because dial-up is slow, so you won't be using it for downloading big files.
Plus, you do not have to pay to use WiFi, and don't have to worry about poor wifi reception at hotel rooms which are farther away from the wireless router, or have too many people connected to the wireless router.
You may need to get an external USB dial-up modem since I'm not sure if many laptops still have dial-up modems like in the past.
