I am thinking of putting one together for myself. I'm trying to decide if I should just draw up one on a Word Document or actually use a website to host my portfolio or even secure my own domain name for my online portfolio. What do you guys do? Please feel free to share you portfolios as well.
I might end up making one, they have little portfolo hosting sites like about.me and others which might just benefit myself since I really do not want to buy a domain and hosting just for my online portfolio. I have considered making it in a word document but I have procrastinated about doing that for so long now I might as well just forget about it. 😛
I haven't had to go jobsearching so I have no need of one for the time being. It sounds interesting though, maybe in the future, but I don't see why I would need my own domain for one. A free hosting site should be enough, I think?
I think LinkedIn is the best way to create your online portfolio and share it with all online. It helps to create a professional network with companies and business people.
I will have one by the end of next year 😛 It's kinda a MUST here in Belgium where I study Graphic Media 🙂
But it's handy to have one and also expands a bit your customers range
I have plans for one. I just need to find some free time to set it up. I decided to purchase a domain (and eventually, web hosting) so I put my portfolio online. I am still considering other options though. A full website may be too much for my current needs.
It's what I used, and probably should use more but I find it a little annoying sometimes. I see it more of a "big business" thing rather than a way to document all the online jobs you have had.
I imagine it would be useful to list your online projects in your Linked In Profile if it's relevant to the kind of jobs you'd be interested in acquiring in the future.
I designed and coded my own portfolio as well as utilizing DeviantArt.
I've seen comments about not needing your own domain and using free hosts etc... All I will say is that if its just a showcase, fine, go with the free services. But if you intend at all to use it as a means of getting clients or anything of the sort, a custom domain comes off far more professional.
I prefer to host a domain name and set up my own portfolios online. Then, I can link them on LinkedIn, and other sites or social media. My Web design portfolio needs some work, I've not updated it but you can see it here http://izimmbi.com/portfolio
My author site--for my writing and such--is technically an author portfolio so I guess taking a look at that wouldn't hurt either: http://mr-wyatt.com
The two sites are completely different and showcase different things.
I think the best way of making portfolio is create your official website, Behance and your LinkedIn Profile as well. Focus on Branding yourself and integrate both sites to use the. Currently I'm planing to do the same...
