I don't make any money of my forum and I run my forum at the moment.

I run my forum just for fun. Though if it does get active enough, I might want to run it for money.

Just for sun, any money that would come out of it would only be a bonus!

I run it for fun and money but running a forum for money isn't necessarily a bad thing in my opinion. Many companies succeed because they want profit and because of this they have money to improve their company and invest to expand and this also motivates them to provide better services/products. Same goes for forums. Forums that don't earn money from it will often suffer because they won't have money to fund hosting, competitions, new themes and this is bad for their development. Unless one is willing to fund it from their own pocket, the forum won't have enough money to run. Therefore running a forum for money is good for development as long as there is a balance between profits and investment.

I run my forum for fun. I have other ways on gaining money. Forums are a hobby for me.

I don't have ads on my communities. I rely on donations to support the bills. There are hardly any donation at all, so I'm losing money, not earning. I wish I could say that I run my forums for fun, but my forums has caused me so much stress (drama, co-admins who turned out to be traitors etc.) that I have come to a point where I don't find the fun of running them anymore. I honestly couldn't tell you why I run forums anymore.

I don't make money, so definitely for fun.

Any money I do make (donations, premium services, etc.) goes back to the forum for contest prizes, themes, features, etc. and not into my pocket.

I run my community for fun. Whatever I do get (donations, elite members, etc.) goes towards hosting, new software, new themes, new plugins, contests, etc.

I run my forum for fun. In the future I may try to make money from it to put back into the forums development.

My forum is a hobby, so it's definitely for fun, I like the challenge of it all, and the people that I interact with, it's relaxing friendly and a lot of fun. :cheer:

....If only more members would posts. 😀

If I admined forums just for the money, then I'd be sorely disappointed!

Forums are a hobby, essentially. 😛 The bigger the forum, the funner the hobby is, but unless you own a really big forum, there's not that much money in it, and if you are making tons of money off of a forum, then I imagine it kind of ruins the fun, because you'd be afraid your cashflow would go away every time you make a mistake.

Pretty much this.

I have only ever run forums for fun. Anything online is a hobby for me. For me personally, my career has to involve directly helping people in order for me to feel like I'm doing something worthwhile.

I run my forum for the fun of it, and considering my forum at the moment is only for friends, I don't see me making any money from it.

I run it for fun, and to some extent to learn something.

Sure, I'd not say no to get some money out of it, but it's not an aim at this point, might change eventually I suppose.

A little bit of both, the main reason I own and operate forums is for my passion in the industry but also as websites that complete my portfolio and hopefully land contracts to develop and work on other projects that give me an income.

Just for the fun because it is a good experience and I don't expect it will earn much. I better go looking for a job heheh

For fun, I don't earn anything from it and when we reach a point where we can make money it will be used on upgrades, prizes etc. Non-profit, I guess that applies to my site at least.

Both, mainly for fun, almost if not all money earned goes towards hosting fees and other stuff like that. Maybe I'll take $5 in every $50
