Have you noticed it at all?

Say a forum is called "Smiley Lounge" it's domain wouldn't be "generalforum" would it?

Do you think people do this because they want a domain but don't want to buy a new one?

I've seen this a few times recently and I don't understand it.

Ohhh that annoys me so much! Surely having a relevent domain name helps loads??

It could be that they cant find the domain name that matches the name that they want. But still! Arg!

I remember a forum with a logo irrelevant to the site name on a site though I can't remember this off the top of my head.

I know of a forum that has something to do with general in it's domain name and it's a promotion forum!

It just adds a unique touch to the forum 😛

People don't know what it is, so they visit

Many forum owners do this, because the original site died, but they still want to hold onto that post/member count; even though none of it has anything to do with the "new" forum idea.

You didn't needa say it out loud. But, yeah. That's prob why I'm staff there as it is pretty unique.
LMAO! I knew this was all directed to me

Anyways, HCF said right, that is what I did.

It is lined up for a new domain name soon, so you can take us off the list :cheer:

You can redirect old domains to new ones..

Anyways, this topic made me laugh.. Yes Ive seen it... I'd rather they get a .co.cc with the actual name of the forum instead of re-using a oddball top level domain that I wont remember.

I knew it was pointed at Chatbam....

Yes, it is a bit odd, but hopefully the owner can see that >.< (not directly at you, Justin)

I don't think its pointed at anyone. Ive seen SEVERAL forums do this. So, its just an open discussion... If 22_22 wanted to make a thread to point the finger at one specific forum, he would have done so.

Not really, I don't want to "point the finger" at someone.

As you said, this is just an open discussion. 😉

I have to admit, this is kinda ridiculous. Isn't the point of a domain name to make it easier for a person to access the site? If the domain has nothing to do with it, then it totally defeats the purpose of having one.

I mean really, even a free URL shortener is better than an irrelevant domain, because at least the URL shortener makes it easier for people to access it.

I have several people getting confused as to what my forum is about as my domain don't have anything to do with graphics. Well, my reason is simple. I have had enough with gfx forum name. It's too common and not unique. Gfx- This Gfx-That or This-Designs That Designz. Ugh and yea I have seen several domains that have nothing to do with the forum name. Not really a bother to me, it's just a name. Unless it is too obvious like pokemon domain with soccer forum.

Well, at least "Toxic City" is the name of your site. Like others have mentioned, "Forum Ads" for example has the domain "chatbam", which doesn't relate to the site at all. :S

Well my forum is for developing writers, but it's not called ''Writers Forum''. Why? Because that name has been taken fifty times over. In retrospect ''Be Creative Forums'' is a fairly cheesy name, but I've somehow managed to make it somewhat of a motto.

Toxic City is fine, so long as it's the name of your board. Now if I called my site ''Writers Forum'' and had the domain as http://becreativeforums.com that would be another story. The same would go for you calling your site ''Gfx Forum'' but with http://thetoxiccity.net as the domain.
