Do you think some of those members were fake considering how many members they got in that time?

I did mention that the owner used to run another 6 years old website that got shut down and most of the members on the site now are from his other old website..

I think that if you're looking for donations, it's important to 1.) make where and how to donate easy and visible, 2.) display (i.e have a thread) what exactly the donations will be used for and why for transparency, and 3.) thank each donor individually for their support and offer some sort of perk(s) like an upgraded user group, user title change, recognition thread, etc if possible. I know MyBB has a donation plugin that adds a separate donation.php page to your forum where people can donate with PayPal or a credit card right there and includes a tracking system in the ACP.
