'Don't ask, don't tell' ruled unconstitutional

@Gimgak: For all practical purposes, there are no gays in the US military, under don't ask don't tell.

@Irviding: I think it's fine for someone who's gay to serve in the military, but I recognize the right of the military to put forth policies which benefit this nation's national security. I don't openly advocate or denounce that policy, however, I trust the military's knowledge in this matter. If the military revoked the policy I wouldn't care.

The current military leadership supports repealing this (Secretary Gates for example) it's just these stupid socially conservative jackasses in Congress who have a problem.

Last I checked, you have had a majority in congress since 2006. You had a double super-majority for like a year.

Not all republicans are conservative.

Anyway, here 'ya go:

I believe that the military leadership of this country should make the final decision on this policy based on how it effects the war effort. Congress should call a couple dozen generals up to some committee or other and decide based on their opinions. If they say that it doesn't matter, then yes, repeal it. I don't care if this is removed or not, my only concern is its impact on the war effort. It's the generals that know that impact the most.

Not really. The generals aren't the ones who are out there stationed in the middle east with these guys. How about we get some of them out here to tell us?

I think they were actually doing an anonymous poll of soldiers on this not that long ago.

Even then, it really doesn't matter. A county as westernized as us, which prides itself on freedom and tolerance and equality, should not have such a policy. It's that simple. A soldier can make an argument like "ewww I don't want to shower with a gay guy" or some crap like that, but think about it, the gay guy is still going to be there without the policy, he just can't tell you he's gay.

The vast majority of Democrats in Congress are moderately conservative like Obama is. There are some exceptions (notably Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio). Almost every single Democrat from the South is anti-choice and anti-homosexual. The president himself is not completely for homosexuality; he supports civil unions, and that's the same opinion as George W. Bush has.

List of most liberal senators as of 2007. Obama is #1, Biden is #3.

Cosmic, that actually helps his argument more than it helps yours. It just shows that there are not a lot of very liberal people in Congress right now.

The list was as of 2007, so it's not up to date on the current senators.

There probably isn't a single true liberal in the Senate right now with the possible exception of Al Franken, who's a Democrat from Minnesota and one of the few senators with any integrity at all.

see, i disagree because i think we should be monitoring all gay. put a tab in their emails, don't catch them right away, because if you do, they will kill all the children they have locked up as their sick gay pets. if we monitor their email and follow them around, we can find the children, free them from gay grasps, and then the world will be a better place
