Apparently they were bought recently and people have been complaining ever since, so I'm avoiding that.

How recently? They seem to have a pretty good team in place, especially if they just changed owners.

I am going to vouch for Rat Hosting (https://www.rathosting.com) as they have been excellent with me. I haven't needed support with them so I don't know what it is like but they have great uptime and fast loading times (for me anyway and I am with Sky which says it all). It is slightly more expensive for the plan you would want as it is in GBP but is worth the money. That is my two cents anyway.

Wonder if that transfer thing applies for free hosting, I submitted my site but have no answer. It's getting a bit too close to rely on that.

How long do customers have to grab a backup of their sites? Or has the deadline already expired? I feel sorry for the ones who have to use an older backup if the deadline has already expired. Trust me: Using an older backup is no fun. When my forum was hacked in 2011, we lost 24 hours worth of posts, and believe me, I was pissed! So hopefully members have had time to obtain a backup before the closure, otherwise:

1. They'll end up losing some work or
2. They might have to start all over again.

Wow, I am just now seeing this topic. I got home from vacation last night and I was surprised to see that I had gotten a couple emails about Empire Hostings closing. I am really sad to see that Empire Hostings is closing. I don't even know if there is a better web host out there, but I am going to be looking for one. Anyways, I need to figure out the new home for Cmt Sport Forum over the next couple days. 🙂

Good Luck with finding a new host. It is definitely a hard task with the multitude of good and bad reviews around for every host.

Yeah, I just don't think I could trust another FP member with hosting again, I think the FP hosting reputation might have been tarnished slightly by this, because it's better going with a company which has been around almost as long as I've been born than a company which is only a year old for example. You never know when these smaller hosts are going to close down.

Jordan has good financial backing from what I've seen. I would trust him with hosting any of my sites. It's all about supporting the FP community. 🙂

This has definitely hurt the reputation of FP hosts though although I feel that the closure has been handled reasonably well under the circumstances.

This x1000. If a great host like EH couldn't make it, I'm not comfortable putting my trust in any other FP member's hosting account either. Considering they're mostly resellers of another host, I'd rather just go straight to the main source and be safer from now on. I doubt I'd even want to buy hosting from Nerdie or Fergal at this point. Nothing against them, of course.
