Rick Ace... first post, fourth sentence:
DS was just looking for another good host for his site, which is why a lot of people have recommended their services or hosts they've used. So it wasn't only about the fact that EH was closing (and the option for users to transfer over to Goldsboro Web Development hadn't been made yet).
I don't recall anywhere (save for possibly one post) seeing people insult EH or Sshadow or saying it was a bad host. (If anything, I've seen people praising EH indicating it was a good host.) And no one is saying EH won't be missed. (If anything some of those posts I linked indicate the opposite.)
Personally I think the more notice given the better. 2 weeks is a minimal time at best (less than a week is just unprofessional, regardless of whether you're a major company or a relatively new start up), a month gives people much more time to plan ahead. I know that a month isn't always possible or an option, but the more time for the end users the better. It means people aren't scrambling in a hurry as badly trying to find another host, jumping into another host (possibly a less than stellar one) without really knowing what's coming.
I do feel bad for everyone affected in this situation (it's not a fun feeling having to close a site, let alone an entire service people depend on. And for everyone using that service, now having to go hunting for new hosts and moving their sites? That's a huge pain in the butt, especially if you have a large/popular site.)
Anyone know a good hosting for a IPB forum and wordpress site and does the transfer process for me?
