FFS my sites been hacked

Wait, didn't you just become owner of Post 4 Post? Wasn't Tayne the old owner?

If so, he could have easily made himself an FTP account or something to mess something up.

Remember when you reupload your backup, make sure to check for any accounts that have admin powers & check your host for ftp / phpmyadmin accounts. 🙂.

Very very very good! Good thinking!

That is true NaXuh.

Make sure that you either change some information around or just talk to your host to get a change made.

What will annoy them more is if you just continue with your forum as if nothing has happened. I couldn't see them hacking phpBB, so I guess they must have accessed your account some way.

Sorry for what has happened, keep on going though through your backup.

Contact Tayne's ISP.
They'll shut down his internet, I am sure hacking is breech of contract 😛

He is most likely using a proxy so you will get no where unless you provide tons of evidence to let them look into it.

He's not using only a proxy but maybe 6 or more.

To be honest, that's all you can do is go on with your site like nothing has happened. I've seen cases where sites get all childish by coming out with announcements claiming who did it and it eventually becomes a wild game of "he said, she said". So to be honest, there's not really a whole heck of a lot you can do, except probably contact the hackers ISP, show them the evidence you have (if any) and go from there. It's never a good idea to bring about incidents after they've happened, whether it's an announcement or even general discussion, because that's what these idiots want. They love the fact that they're getting attention and being blamed for these incidents, so it's best not to bring it up in discussion at all.

Ugh again. Hackers need to learn the hard way. When hackers hack sites, it doesn't show they have skill at all. It just shows to the world that they don't know how to resolve problems either because they have some kind of mental illness or because their parents have mental illness.

And good luck bro!

Wait a minute. Hold it. I have mental problems myself, mostly in the form of mental disabilities, but do you see me running around trying to hack other people's sites? Heck no! There's got to be more to it than just mental health issues, because I have such problems myself, but you don't see me running around the Internet causing havoc and mayhem. Personally, I find that part offensive because I'm mentally ill myself, but that's just me. I do, however, agree that these low-lifes need to learn the hard way that hacking someone else's hard work is wrong, and they should be punished for it. That mental illness part angered me more than anything, so I had to throw my 2 cents in there, but I agree with you on the rest of it.

@Ashley - Sorry Ashley. I didn't mean it that way and don't take it too personally.

That's quite all right. I just wanted to point out that I do have mental health issues, none are bad to the point where I need to be on meds, apart from anxiety meds, but I am also mature enough to think things through before doing anything, and as far as forum related ordeals goes, I always ask my fellow staff members what I should do before carrying out an operation of any kind. Especially if it's a situation I've never dealt with before.

Might I ask what forum software and version you were using?

Oh and everyone calling these guys "hackers" don't.. these two are known script kiddies... All they do is use a known flaw in x software and find a program that uses that flaw.. It is so common....

The easiest way to avoid this, stay updated and always keep your forum secure.

I wouldn't even say it's a mental thing, they do it for the "fun" that they somehow get out of it.

@NBK - Actually, I heard that elsewhere that they use the exploits to the the work instead, so your right on that one.

Look at the databases section and the FTP sections of your admin panel. There could be admin accounts which are accessible by past owners, which could lead to what you think is hacking. Either way, Tayne is notoriously known for these type of actions; your best bet is to make sure you have secure passwords, no loopholes and maybe consult with your host as to the exact nature of this issue. They may be able to notify you if another IP apart from your own is used to access the admin panel.

Well wouldn't that be considered as a mental illness? Hacking is not fun. If you think ruining someones hard work is fun, then you might have problems. And I'm just saying.

Well I think I know who was it, his name starts with a letter "F" right?

Well, use your backup, IP ban those hackers, and start over with new passwords?

There is no way in IP-Banning Hackers. I would actually find out they did it and try and fix it up.

I don't think it's all about mental illness. Because as I've said, I myself am mentally ill, but I am healthy to the point where I know my own mind, even if I do make mistakes (don't we all?) I'm also blessed to have 3 fellow staff members backing me up and who keep me from making decisions that I could end up regretting later on, should I ever actually go through with the plan. So while there are more serious cases than mine out there, I'm sure, you can't exactly blame everything on mental illnesses.

Would password protecting the /adm/ folder for phpBB3 make hacking the forum harder to hack your forum via a Web Browser by guessing your admin password or another's admin's password?

They probably need to use a SQL injection, or Hack your web hosts FTP or SSH account for your web host which is not easy in many cases for the average techie.

Some people claim password protecting the /adm/ folder in phpBB3 via your web host will make it harder since they have to hack your admin user account and the password protected folder account for the folder.

Also, keep phpBB3 updated to 3.09 which is the latest version.

First off, I want to mention hackers are good people. They use these methods of obtaining access to what is not theres, but that isnt there goal. What they do is find a loop hole, exploit it and usually leaves a message saying fix your forum. They keep websites secure.

However, these people are not hackers, they are known as crackers. They have fun ruining other forums and websites. These no life scums are ruining hackers reputations. They disgust me.

Just some background info, I was trained by a person who was part of a group that hacked major websites. He tought me about SQL injections, Pearl, java, etc to exploit sites.

I've seen these 2 attack advertisehotspot and nearly ruined it. Frankly, I'm getting tired of them.

Anyways, to keep yourself with better protection, follow these steps:

1. Never accept any emails that are unknown to you. You can, without knowing, get keylogged and he can take all of your passwords.

2. Use randpass.com and update every 2 weeks.

Pm me if you know how he hacked you.
