None. Sometimes confirmation email won't be sent at first, until you re-send it, and that can be frustrating.

PLEASE stop using that horrible yellow text...

Anyway, none. Manual activation is irritating, not only for members, but for me and the rest of the staff team as well.

I use email activation which seems to keep out enough spam registrations to make it feasible. I would like to just have none but that always seems to just create masses of spam accounts which I don't want.

I always do email verification, just for that added peace of mind. Spam will undoubtedly still make it through no matter how many levels of protection are in place, but at least I know that everyone has a valid email account for notifications and should I require to contact everyone at once (externally).

I also keep an eye on validating members, just in case anyone has an issue with the system (or receiving the email altogether). I'd then contact them through the forum PM system after manually activating their account.

I generally just use user. I don't think it's that hard for someone to check their email, and user validation will generally stop most spammers.

I have user activation, main reason is I want them to use a valid email address, not to be sending out email but so they can get back in if they lose their password.

I used to switch between user and admin when I used to get a lot of spammers. But I don't get them now so its user.

I use user activation as this can help prevent spammers and make sure that everyone uses a legitimate email. This also means users can use their account straight away after the activate it.

I'm quite shocked to see the "none" option having so many votes. I set it to user most of the time, every now and then I'll put it on admin verification. I also have a company forum that is admin verification, for obvious reasons. It all depends on what I'm using the forum for. 😛
