lol! Thanks guys... I had already banned her IP from the day I started the forum (as I knew her from another forum where I was a mod), but she's still been able to sign up (just not post). She's got several different e-mail addresses, and I don't want to use a "wildcard" (the *) when banning e-mail adresses.
I don't want to use the e-mail activation one, as when she signs up there are occasionally people who notice, even if she cannot post(most of us at my forum know eachother from a previous forum where also the "unwanted" one was a member), and it makes some people upset when she signs up.
It's not a problem with the admin activation... not like I'm getting flooded with new members... lol!
I use email validation for my boards. At first I did not use anything, but I found a lot of "Viagra" members on my board each day. Email validation solved that issue for me. -🙂-
captcha and email validation -😉-
Although at some points people have gone to register and it just kept coming back to the original register page ~confuse~ Not sure why
None, however i have blocked my forums from being posted on from Guests. Its a good trade off, you just have to be weary of possible hackers/spammers, etc.
I don't have 'email activation' anymore. When i did, many people were complaining saying they never recieved the e-mail...some people don't like putting their real address in...some can't be bothered to go into their emails.
You'll lose a lot of good members that way and it's not worth the risk. If you have good staff then spamming and that won't be a problem 🙂
Right now, since I don't have very many members, I've gone with none. Potential members could sign up, and immediately begin to post (or log in to post), and we see how it goes from there. Once I get more members, and problems with the spamming that goes on, I may enable a stricter means of validation.
I use the user activation. I have only just started using phpbb3 for a new forum i just strated and before that i was using phpbb2. Just want to keep the members down to genuine ones. Had problems with phpbb2 in the past.
Right now we have email activation on. In the beginning we had admin activation, email, and random password before we got our anti-spam method down pat.
