Lately, I've been reading a lot online on various other sites about forum promotion, trying to pick up new tips and tricks on how it's done. And, most blog articles that I read have more to do with what you can do on forum, rather than off forum for promotion. Although I appreciate tips such as 'engage your forum visitor' and 'pick a catchy name for your forum', that doesn't really tell me how to promote when I'm on other sites. I want to actually know what tips forum owners are using when not on their own site, such as they are on other people's forums or on Pinterest and social networking sites.

I wish someone would publish articles like that as it would be very useful.

It's harder to promote a forum compared to other sites, because you need content, and lot's of it. You also need interesting topics with replies, and the only way to get that when starting out is by doing it yourself(creating new topics, and replies), and through post exchanges or postloop.

It might also be a good idea to start off with a team of admins/moderators that are active in the community. If you make your forum look active, you'll get more members, and traffic.
