Four-Step Guide to Creating Meaningful Awards for Your Forum

Ah, you mean trophies! At least that's what I've seen them referred to as such.

For as many years as I've been on forums, I don't really get into those anymore. I understand that there are some who still get a tickle out of receiving a notification that they just got awarded something. I know that a friend of mine recently messaged me after receiving something on my new site. But she's brand new to forums.
 
I love a good award/trophy/badge, they're fun and they you can have a little fun with your member base hiding hidden trophies for them to collect. Give them a theme, some funny names that mean something to the community, it can make for an interesting time. They do lose their appeal over time and become just another thing, since so many forums fail to truly customize their awards and you only get the standard (you made a post! Someone like your post! You added an avatar!) types that people don't really care about.
