US TV network Fox has said it can no longer afford to produce long-running animated comedy The Simpsons without a pay cut for its cast.

In a statement, it said although the series "can and should continue", it could not produce future seasons "under its current financial model".

Fox made the comment after reports it threatened to end the series unless its voice actors took a 45% pay cut.

The cast reportedly earn $8m (£5.2m) each per series.

Do you think that they will be able to negotiate with the voice actors, so that the show can continue running?

I think they'll be able to manage a deal. Let's face it, even with the show less popular than a decade ago, without The Simpsons, Fox would be left with Seth McFarlane's half-assed creations and Bob's Burgers. AKA epic fail.

Simpsons is bringing them a lot of money, it'd be silly for them not to cater to their needs. Though I'm not a fan of the show, I have heard from several of their former fans that the show is just getting stale.

I agree. I'm pretty sure they will work out something.

Even without the Simpsons I'd always have Seth McFarlane's imagination. 😛

I haven't watched The Simpsons regularly in about 10 years (wow, I'm ancient), but I'd still be sad if the show kicked the bucket. I used to absolutely adore it and I've probably memorized the first 10 seasons word for word. Because yes, I am that much of a nerd!
