GamingBoards.net - Review us!

I like the color scheme and theme on the forum. It feels very "gameresque." Kudos.

Maybe I'm used to old school forums where you can see every place to chat and it's not all condensed. I'm not a fan of the non-condensed version because it makes the site look small.

Not sure if there is a way to set a set width on the forum. I think your forum is a little too wide. I have a huge monitor and it just goes through the entire screen. See if maybe you can set a set width and line it up with your banner at top.

The line that shows "News" is also half cut-off and I can only see half of what is displaying.

Best of luck!

Looks like a gaming community so that's a good start off the bat. I don't like all the white space where the forum sections are though. Maybe add some coloured icons to make it look less white? You have a few sections which is good as most people tend to go other board with them. Gaming forums are tough to run (from experience) so I wish you the best of luck with it!

Thank you for the feedback, it's much appreciated! Gaming Forums are definitely BRUTAL to run, and I wouldn't recommend anyone even attempt it in today's day and age. I've had the Forum since 2005, and that's the only reason I'm still running with it. The community has costed me more $ and hours than I'm willing to admit.

Thanks again!

Myself and a friend was considering starting a gaming community couple months back until we did a study of who our major competitors would be:

Gamespot
GameFAQs
IGN
GameSpot
GameRankings

My advice would be if you are considering this niche study the major competitors and if you feel you have what it takes to compete with them (eventually) then go for it. If you go into it blindly or without doing your homework i.e finding out what makes these communities so popular and how you will be able to successfully attain some of their audience you will be disappointed in several months if not weeks.

IMHO... The problem is that you're on a free-forum solution. You need to do more. And the best way to do it, is through a real, hosted forum. Rent a server, buy forum software (ideally one that has good on-page SEO), acquire sites if you can, and start marketing. Make that site the hottest site in town.

The larger your site is, and the more pages you're indexed on google, and in fact, the higher pagerank you have for one or two of your pages - the more visitors you have. This is why you buy niche websites. I've been doing this since 2010. I attracted 1 Million Users from the many years I've been doing this model.

Free-forums is limiting your progress. That's my opinion. You can disagree with it, some already have, and I've gotten controversy for it... but I've been doing this since 2001. Many free-forums die eventually because it's just not extensive. The owner has to do the legwork, with no monetary gain. The person who gains the most is the free-forum company. Nobody else.

Thanks for the Advice, personally I'm a huge fan of ProBoards, I've used them since 2005. I'm awaiting their next version release which will open up a whole new world of options and features available. I had many more features only a couple of months back, however, they weren't compatible with my new theme so I'm in the process of bringing everything back over the next few months. I suspect things will appeal much more to those looking for a little more spice on GamingBoards.net within the coming months.

Thanks for the feedback!

I agree with the above comment. I can see your hard work 🙂 it looks nice and I’m glad there are still people pursuing gaming communities even though there’s a vast amount of competitors!

Thank you! I've definitely put an enormous amount of work into the GamingBoards.net community and I'm very glad to hear you can notice! There are plenty of competitors and it's very tough, however we keep moving forward!

Would love to hear what everyone else has to say. We mold our community using community feedback. :writer::pics:

That's a very interesting looking forum, is it custom?

Some of the text is a wee bit on the small side and is fairly difficult to read.
