Hack in process

I can't understand why people go out of their way to ruin something someone has spent hours creating.

I second that. It just doesn't make sense..
I agree as well, sure we all mod our forums and stuff but for someone to destroy something we value and pay for everyway, I am sorry, I just hate them.

Then hate them, it's not like they'll care. Humans are growing too used to the idea of a perfect world, and how things "should" be. Keep in mind that viruses are in nature as well, they feed and don't provide. They destroy animals, much like a hacker destroys a site.

Point is, get over it. It makes sense because nature makes sense. It makes LESS sense to assume that there isn't a force out there that wouldn't cause harm like that when nature shows us that there is in every system.

You're all nuts. Why do wars happen then? People go out of their way to destroy LIVES parents have spent YEARS making and developing. Hacking is just war online, there is no difference. A hacker = a solider. I'm not, nor will I ever say soldiers are bad people, nor will I ever say hackers are bad people.
Wars have two sides. Hacking a forum that's done nothing back isn't war.

I agree with Ghost, his point does make some sense. Hackers aren't evil, a large amount of people who worked on the antivirus that is now protecting your computer most likely started like regular computer hackers.

so lets say you own a board with 900+ members and 100k posts, would you want a hacker to break your forum?

I never said that, but if I had a board like that I'd be sure to keep daily backups of the board. I'm just saying all hackers aren't evil, lots of security experts started simply as hackers.

Basically anyone who doesnt have authorised permission to attempt to access/penetrate a network is an "evil" hacker, they are the ones breaking the laws. I would say most security experts dont start out as "evil" hackers, especially working for businesses like IBM as they would have to have a degree so they would have studied at university. The people called Ethical hackers are the people who would most likely have been "evil", and have turned around which equals the name.

@Fowler
Have you heard of a white hat hacker? They are the "good guys", if you can believe it. They get paid to find exploits in systems before the bad guys do, and they get paid to take down sites that cause harm as well. Sure, they are still breaking cyber laws but they are doing it for good reasons.

The term "Hacker" just means someone who edits something to work better for them anyway, we're all hackers and modders. You can't say hackers are bad people with no lives unless you include yourself when you speak.

Hackers are usually bad people.
I didn't say all were bad. I know some people pay hackers to try and hack their site and see if they can get access to their customers bank details and so on. That is why i said "usually" that they are bad people. In this situation we are talking about the bad hackers as the hackers in this topic hacked a forum to cause damage didn't they? They weren't the good hackers to check for exploits.
