Yes, it will be very difficult these days to be famous for only having a website with little to no content since these days almost any body can have a Top level domain name and a simple website coded with HTML.

Unless you register a great domain name like farm.com

Was there a question with that? Sorry, I didn't quite understand the post.

Any site can become popular. Google done it by word of mouth, so getting people to talk about it can get your site popular.

I just read on a lot of blogs which said you can't get much returning traffic or a fan base which will follow you just by setting up a website with un-orginal content and telling your friends about it.

You have to actually provide a useful service or a lot of quality content about your website category like electronics to have returning visitors, and telling your family and friends about your website won't bring in a lot of returning traffic because there are good odds your friends and family will just visit once and not very often since they are not into your website with not a lot of interesting content.

The simplest things do add up. Making business cards, pens, word-of-mouth, posters on message boards to actually contribute to an extensive amount of local traffic. Its with this traffic you rank well in local searches, hence it builds up exponentially.

Its true unoriginal content won't get you a large amount of return visitors, but you are targeting a very small portion of visitors. The Internet hosts millions of people and so you may have attracted those who have read the content before, but then again, there are millions who haven't read it and will feel as if its original content.

What I find is a good way to attract visitors with un-original content is just to post a video or screencast video about it on Youtube, or using regular english or use analogies or similies to explain technical topics in articles.

For example, cleaning a Computer monitor is a lot like cleaning your TV, but with eye glass cleaner or non-abrassive and ammonia free liquids.

There are also plenty of Youtubers who find interesting funny and sarcastic ways to talk about everyday problems like "having someone hand you dirty or warm money because they held it too long".
