I can vividly remember, when i downloaded a free image online, without knowing it was wrapped around with a malware, and i forgot, i turned off my anti-virus . And that was how i got my system hijacked, i can no longer operate my system, without an Ad redirecting my browser to an Ad page.
And i really suffered to get my system back to the normal state.
I was really thankful though, because it was not some ransomware kind of virus 😀

Anyone experienced such?

Yes, So bad that I had to do an clean install of the OS and had to clean out the drive. it was some years ago and it came in as I was downloading something. it want into the system files

No, I have never had to deal with that problem,... Occasionally I have found Windows malware/viruses , that some how
got into my files, but they have no effect on a Unix like system, and I just delete them. I suppose they came from some
image I downloaded or something.

Our previous home desktop was hit by a virus. We had photos printed in a cyber shot via usb drive. When we used the usb again, the anti virus was flashing an alarm. Ironically, the malware couldn't be removed so we had to resort to a website that offers free service. It was scary because during that time, our archive was not up to date.

My computer has but not me personally, lol

I got infected once long before when I downloaded and installed a software. I had a free anti virus at the time which was unable to detect the malware. Thanks to that incidence that made me use a licensed anti virus which helps much to protect my computer from such hazards.

It's funny how people talk about these viruses, they make it sound like their body was infected, not their computer.

Finally I had to re-install Windows.
I thought you will say that. I had an bad one myself years and years ago with paid antivirus and yet it got hold of my system files

I have been keylogged before when I was younger from messaging someone on ebay for online game items, and they jacked everything I had on that online game.

Malware is total hell on a computer. In fact, if it has it, then it's not worth even using. However, not to jinx myself, but mine hasn't been infected in years.

One should check everything they download, before down loading it. E-mail as well is a good source of
"vuriuses",trojans , mal-ware of all sorts, never download and unzip a file attached to a e-mail, unless you are absolutely sure
the sender is someone you know and trust, and expect them to send a file,...but really sending attached files by e-mail is not really a very good or safe method any way.
"mywot.com" has a lot of information on how to check sites and files before downloading.

Adware back when I was a little kid on windows downloading club penguin hacks lol. Now days though I'm a technically competent individual and malware isn't an issue for me.
