I had gotten laid off from an advertising agency in Chicago because they weren't getting enough clients and they wanted to hire me as a freelancer. Except that they didn't want to pay me the same that the male freelancer was getting, so I left at the end of the day and said I would never go back. And I never did.

Never. I would rather someone leave a notice before leaving unless they have a valid reason, which is never really the case in my situations at my current company. Giving some amount of notice is better than none.

I came close once, sometimes there are limits and you just simply can't endure it any longer.

I've never walked out abruptly, but I have quit with very short notice for mental health reasons.

I had a very short lived job during the 70's retouching photographs using paint and ink. The first time I asked for a holiday, a single day to attend an important event, it was refused so I walked out there and then.

Yep, I have walked out on two jobs. The first one was a marketing job in one Advertising Agency Company. Even though I was Head of Marketing Department, it was one hell of a stressful job. I couldn't keep up with because it was killing me. The next one was in Sex Toys Company. I was the Manager of the company but I was disrespected by the owner and She messed with my salary. I walked into her office and dropped my resignation letter and told her I'm leaving effective immediately.
