So I am wondering why people don't like having partners when starting and running a forum? Do we have anyone here that wouldn't mind having 1 or 2 partners?

Most of us know The domain owner has more authority than partner so people are afraid when it grews up they kick off. We have seen a lot of forums where admins kick off when it grews into big. similar things can happen by partenring.

Presently forums doenst have a life so it is a waste of running just like beating a dead horse.

Simply because the risk associated with having a co-admin. If one co-admin decides to leave or such, things could get dirty. There needs to be clear rules and common understanding from both parties from the start if such an arrangement is to succeed.

I have a partner for Christianity Haven. I don't own it...I just run it. I don't have the final say on things, but the owner and I are pretty good at agreeing to most things so there rarely are arguments on how things should be handled. I don't want to own it and I don't know enough tech stuff to do things on my own which is why I asked around for the forum to be built by someone in the first place. I didn't even want to be staff to begin with, I really only wanted a home forum to go to every day.

I have been on forums that are run by more than one person or more partners. Some are successful and others failed because owners leave their parts as they may be got too big for their heads. End of the day whoever owns or pays for what things are or just the main person. Who makes up and does what he wants XD.

But I have seen it works out for many

I think forum owners are interested in having partners, it will ease their work. However, the truth is people are not interested in becoming partners in any forum because it does not pay.

Not everyone is after getting paid though. There are some, like me, who have been enjoying forums for almost 30 years.

Some people like @Katrina are just here for the ride and enjoy being on a forum.

I'd say that most though want something out of it and a lot of the time things fall apart.

Maybe that's why we've lasted for 7 years now at Christianity Haven? 😀

I'm weary of having a partner, just because I had a bad experience in the past. I promoted the wrong person to admin once on one of my old Proboards forums. They ended up deleting my theme and installing a bunch of random ones that didn't even fit the niche of my forum. Since then, I wait to hire staff and most of the time I usually only promote one person to moderator.

What about starting a new forum up? If you and someone else has about the same idea, would you try to work it out so you both can own the site?

I've had co-admins before but I've always been the sole owner of my sites.

Maybe I would do this if I found the right person. I suppose it wouldn't hurt if there was another person who had the same passion, I did have a technical admin once on my old Mighty No. 9 Forum. He took care of installing plugins, themes, etc while I focused on content. (This was when I was still new to owning a forum.)

Would you like the cost to be 50% each? If you had 2 or more in the partnership and 1 of them had to exit, how would you handle that?

Definitely, it's best to split up the cost. As for having more people it would make things complicated, especially in the case if someone bailed out. At that point I would discuss it with the other staff and see if we should look for another partner or try to do what we can on our own. After all, we'd need to be all on the same page for the project to work.
