This paranormal forum that I've been a member at for 10 years has died over the years and was once a busy place. Now there's only me who visits occasionally, a moderator and one other member posts there. The moderator has done everything to promote the forum but nothing is improving. They can't get any answer to why nobody comes on anymore. Even though I don't own the forum and not sure whether it's allowed I have come up with the idea of posting here so I can give them answers and help. Maybe you forum experts know more. The forum needs a complete revamp. The site looks vast, inactive and not very attractive. Most people will see the site and instantly leave without looking at the topics. You should contact the forum administration and convince them to make changes. Some ideas that you can tell them which will significantly improve the site.
-Get a good forum banner.
-Reduce the sections by merging.
-Dark theme can be better.
I agree with @Rohan Winchester on this one. The site definitely needs a revamp. A better theme with text that is actually quite visible. The site seems a bit off putting for the first time viewers.
The forum looks 'busy'. Too many different boards. & I agree, creates the illusion that there's no activity & people won't even bother.
Another option which some don't like, just shut it down. Maybe start a brand new one.
If a forum is shut down, it doesn't mean it wasn't good. It just means some thinking has to be done to be more modern. Ask yourself why did the active members stop posting? & then learn from it.
I would definitely recommend reducing the number of forums available - condense them by their superheading. The text is also a bit small and difficult to read.
I have to say that the site needs to be responsive and the text needs to be bigger. I would also agree that the sections need to be condensed up quite a bit.
