How can I promote my facebook group?

Recently I promoted my Facebook group here, it was one topic for the group and one for a blog, so a moderator came and merged both, if you want to see the group, take a look here: viewtopic.php?f=136&t=109929

So...
since I promoted the group, I didn't get a single member, and here are my questions:

- How should I create the advertisement? (What kind of info, call-to-action message, should I insert pictures?)
- Where can I promote the group? (Which blogs, forums, social media....)
- What kind of freebies can I put in the page?
- If you have a facebook group page, tell me your experience and what you did to reach the top.

Facebook groups are often hard to promote. Some advice I would give is to make sure you have lots of content/updates. There is no point in anyone joining a group that has nothing in it. Check there aren't other similar groups on Facebook as well as this might be where the problem lies. If you have a twitter account use that to promote your Facebook group too 🙂

You can promote your group through other related Facebook groups.
You can join in other related Facebook groups and send private message to those people who are already member of those groups.
You can promote your groups in other social media such as Google Plus, Twitter etc.
