How do you fill out the meta description data for a forum?

Recently, I changed my forum theme and now my meta data is missing. I lost some ground in Google Search due to this and I want to change it back as soon as possible. Last time, my webmaster friend helped me with the meta description, etc. But this time around, I'm going it alone and will be adding this info for myself. Can someone provide details on how to add meta description/tag, keywords, etc for an SMF based forum?
