What do/did you guys do to help get and keep your users engaged and posting on your (new) forum?

First you must have content that is worth chatting about. Once you get a great deal of content, you can use places such as ForumPromotion to help boost your site activity. Once you get some people posting and showing others that it isn't completely dead, people may stumble upon it and sign up if its interesting to them and worth chatting on.

You have to promote, promote, promote your site to get it active and popping though. Its not going to go from 0 to 100 overnight unless you have some pretty awesome forum start up tricks. Forums take patience to get started and to a point that they are active and the users are engaged.

Totally agree with you!

Promote as much as you can with already created content, do post exchanges and really work on getting people interested and wow them to your website.

Honestly. Patience is a virtue.
Once you get that first pivotal member, the rest can very easily fall into place.

Like others have said content and dedication is key.
