What are the signs of a real DDOS (distributed denial of service) attack? For instance, how do you know your site is being attacked versus a standard server outage or downtime?

Go to the ZetaBoards Support Forum to see if an official announcement topic has been made about a DDoS attack happening. :r

Unless of course you're not being hosted by ZetaBoards.

Normally you can monitor your server and tell unless you're on shared hosting or something.

Of course, but I took it they were asking how you personally know your own forum is being attacked, and thus gave the appropriate answer to it.

apparently one way is when your forum/site seems to lag so much for a moment. Not sure, but I think so. xD
