How do you believe the USA is doing, now that we are almost 10 days in since inauguration?

Much better than how it was in the past 4 years for many things. Not all though, but at least we have an active President again. I'm looking forward to so many things that this administration has planned such as DOGE, RFK doing his thang, and removal of so many Biden impediments.

I'm looking forward to better food and less dangerous ingredients.

I'm excited for us to have a chance at chiseling away our debt and I don't know what it is, but it excites me to feel that we could be one day in a surplus. I know it's not my money.

The no tax on income excites me too. I'm okay with having a tax on everything we buy because I can easily control my spending. What I can't control is them taking my money before I even get it.

The new ideas being brought forth to help salvage the country is definitely exciting! I'm also for no taxes on tips because my daughter has a weekend job as a server to help supplement her income, and this will help her out greatly!

Honestly terrible in my eyes. I fear that I will lose access to my hrt under this administration, they already dropped the T from the LGBT acronym on government links. They need to stop focusing on my community and stay out of issues that they don't understand. They're not protecting anyone, they're doing more harm than good. The fact that this is happening not even a month since he took office makes me fear for the next four years. This is why people asked to have a mental health day after the results of the election, they knew he was going to take rights away. They knew this administration was going to force Project 2025 on everyone, and that they were going to target minorities. Trans people who haven't had the chance to update their gender marker on their passports can't even do that now because they're suspending applications because of a stupid EO that forces trans people back in the closet and forces us to go by our sex at birth because these people do not have a understanding of Biology pass the fifth grade. Sorry I needed to rant, it's disgusting what's going on in our country. It's Fascism, plain and simple.

Although it's still early days, it appears we have a problem in the UK where we have swapped a totally inept right wing government for a totally inept left wing government.

It's probably too early to tell if you have the same problem in the US but the divide between the left and right in your part of the world is a real worry. Trump shoots from the hip and seems determined to reverse and destroy everything the previous administration stood for. Did they really get everything so wrong or is Trump just determined to make it look that way?

I'll go ahead and link to America's favorite news source: https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/01/politics/mexico-canada-china-tariffs-trump/index.html 😛

President Donald Trump announced extraordinary new tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China — signing the long-promised economic policy at his Mar-a-Lago club on Saturday. The Trump administration said tariffs are aimed at curbing the flow of drugs and undocumented immigrants into the US, but they potentially risk substantial price increases for American consumers across an array of common goods from avocados to sneakers to cars.

Hours later, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said her country will impose retaliatory tariffs, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced “far-reaching” retaliatory levies. China’s commerce ministry said it will file a complaint with the World Trade Organization and “take corresponding countermeasures,” without elaborating.

The tariffs, and subsequent retaliation, risk igniting a trade war that could significantly damage the economies of the targeted countries and the United States. In anticipation, Trump’s executive action includes a clause that allows the president to expand the tariffs if a country imposes new tariffs on the United States.

The new policy represents a reversal of virtually duty-free trade among the three North American nations that’s existed for several years — and an expansion of a frosty trade war between China and the United States that has escalated over the past two administrations.

He is fulfilling his promise of tariffs, but Mexico and Canada have already went to bat and stated that they'll be returning the favor. Wonder if this reaction was expected.

Don't have much hope for the country as I did last time. It'll just go down the gutter once more...

Yes, and he's already threatened to up the tariffs if they "retaliate" against his "perfect" tariffs.

Little discussion started on it here also. I'm one of those middle of the road Republicans that the MAGA cult hates. I have actually grown up and realized that you have to work with others to get ahead.

Don’t mind me, I’m just negative $50,000 in my investments as of today. 😒

Some investments are meant to be long term, so there will be huge wins and huge losses through the years. We went through that with our Janus fund when we were in our 20s and 30s and it can be a shock at the loss, but as long as the gains are above your expectations over the years, then you're on the right track.

What a strange idea, you're clearly not cut out to be a politician! :joyful:
Nope... never have been. I'm rather blunt and I don't tend to blow smoke up peoples arse!
But I do smoke a pipe and occasional cigar, so have plenty of it that I could. :cigar:

I hope you enjoy roller coaster rides. Seems a good old fashioned trade war is on the horizon.
And those are never good for the little man.
And Trump has already reversed from "it won't hurt my peoples" to warning of "pain" to come for them.
THIS WILL BE THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA! WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES, MAYBE (AND MAYBE NOT!)
He finally is acknowledging that it's not those other countries that pay but us. He most likely knew it all along, but he couldn't come out and say that as then he couldn't get those good sound bites on it that his members would listen to. Sounds better to say "I'm going to make them pay for all my goodies" than "I'm going to make the US citizen pay for all my goodies".

So get buckle up, get ready and open those wallets boys and girls, life is about get more expensive.
So much for gas and groceries being his big concern for the little people. They are the ones going to get hit hard by this.

I was -62,000 last night, but luckily, I am back to around -$30,000 as of today. A slight recovery.

Why are you in the hole so much? Did you buy TRUMP$?

The same Doge you’ve been holding for years? Your average cost is probably nothing then.
Yep! Still buying every day! I swing trade it back and forth so my average cost is always changing. Usually, about $1000 profit on each trade if the price is fluctuating good enough.
