How easy is for you to hire your staff?

I first posted an open position back in early 2016 and taken about 3 weeks to an month or so before I had someone who is interested in joining. Outcome that he found it by Googling (he doesn't know what FP is) and he came across to my community with one guests viewing the position form. He joined and we started to talk and week later he joined as an training staff.

In the pass month or so he wasn't what I respected, first couple of weeks he was active and posting. Then it went down, that he wasn't putting allot of effect into it, I ask him to help! and do things for the website and that it hasn't been done, so I did it myself later that month since I did not had the extra time to do it before. One day I promoted him to the next rank as I thought it will improve him. He said thanks. However one day I was not happy since I had not seen him for weeks to months and that the fact that he was playing to many Garry's mod games on his server or other then that he's at school. When he does come back from school he gets back into gaming (I have him on steam). Other wards I had to deal with the site myself. One day he sent an message to me that he wanted to be resigned from the staff rank, and so he was removed to an member with VIP membership.

So I updated my position thread and waiting for another so and so weeks to months and talked to members here on FP and they think about it and they came back to me saying that they are not interested and so I'm fine with that, happy that they get back to me.

One day at last, (won't say name, he's staff here on FP) posted his interests to my thread and asking for more details, We private messaged and I sent the link to the position form, three days later he has finally filled it out. I reviewed it!!! and I was not pleased since he hasn't typed that much out/down. Couple of days later I thought to myself well I accept it since I have no one else to join. I messaged him and added his rank. Turns out that it was an bad choice.

The guy (won't say name) is an very good cool person and I like him, he respects and put allot into the FP community. But for myside of my community he didn't response to my emails and if he did it wasn't much other then Okay!! and so then I didn't see him on my website for weeks to an month or so, he hasn't logged into the website for so long that I emailed him and had nothing from him, and I gave up and removed him. So the first week was talking to him with cool demand then after he had is rank that was it, haven't heard from him. Also he has under 5 posts anyway. And that an week or more I started seeing him active on FP and he became the new staff here, and I have sent him an message but no reply. What I don't like that he can say that if he does not want to be apart then just email me and say!!!!!!!!

The list goes on from above that I didn't has much of an staff. After the remove from the second guy I haven't had anyone else interested.

So, It's just me running my community myself and just gave up looking for people.

I seem to don't get an easy way at all.

For me, it depends on the niche, and the business.
Sometimes I find the perfect staff within hours xD

However, other times like my gaming forum, of course, I'm in the same boat with you!
I even have a detailed thread explaining what each role is and what roles are open. However, I find most people who apply are hardly on to begin with. So I don't bother with them.

It has been difficult for me to find staff members but I think that is a result of needing authors and writers rather than moderators/community team members which generally seems to be more "glamorous", I guess you could say.

@Golddisk @Jordan It has been so hard getting the right guy who has interest in an gaming website, Well!! come on those that get accepted is lucky to get the powers as an Mod and do allot more then what other members get and they don't use that option and not being active. As an owner It's hard to do the front end of the house, like yesterday I had to add an new updated code to my Twitch page and I hadn't had the focus on the front end even that there was nothing going on.

What I need to hire, and still looking for months an person who will be an Mod but also advertisement. What I don't like doing is chasing up and the end results that I do it myself. I'm sick to the stick that I don't have the right staff

It's definitely not easy @Empire. What we've done on my forum is to ramp up the application process and include some items to get to know their personality better (to see how they'd mesh with the members and current staff) for new applicants. Obviously not foolproof and it takes longer to find quality people but worth it. In my opinion it is usually best to hire and promote from within anyways but if you are just starting up your community or have a new forum that can be hard.

My Forum has been running for over an year, near to two years just about. And regarding promotion and member there is only one guy that has made over 300 posts, and he's only doing exhanges

Incredibly easy actually. Right now, there are a handful of people on our site that I could ask if we needed new mods. I watch people to see how they interact with others, what their post quality is like and so on.

Well, one thing I would never do is look for mods outside of the community. Advertising for mods is crazy imo. If your site is very new and there is someone who has signed up to your site and is super excited about it, give them some limited role to keep them engaged. You don't have to trust them with full moderator access right away. If your site is really small, then you shouldn't need moderators, but you probably do need some sort of "development" group. Advertising is something that needs to be done by the admins I'm afraid. Our mods don't do any of that. Give them an important permanent title for helping to launch your site by posting content and recruiting some friends. There's no need to actually give them any form of CP access. This is worth thinking about for you.

Back when I was staff on anime-forums.com, an admin of a smaller site was begging me to help him out. I refused. There is absolutely NO WAY that one can moderate two forums despite the best of intentions. You would need to be a total no-lifer because it takes a certain level of dedication. Now, I am a moderator on another site besides Sakuga City, but it's more or less in an advisory capacity. I have more than 10 years experience running large forums (100k+ membership) and dealing with user issues, so I'm there to offer advice, or at least a second opinion in situations that might be a little more difficult to deal with.

That's another thing that we never do. We never take applications for mod positions. If someone has what it takes to be a mod and we are in need of moderators, we will approach them. Often times, the wrong people apply. People who want the silly ability to tell others what to do on an internet forum. That's not what you want. You want people who are already making the forum a better place without ever having been a mod. I know this luxury isn't open to everyone because they might not have enough active members, but we have a group of mods, some who have been on the team for as long as 14 years (before Sakuga City). We have people who we trust 100% completely, and it is through this process of selection. Personality is hugely important. They need to be the type of people that don't get into arguments, or if they do find themselves in a debate, can work through it without attacking other people. You need people who can be objective if a brawl happens in the middle of the night and the mods are the only ones online to deal with it. It's also important that all of your staff can work together as a team. If there's drama behind the scenes, that's going to reflect back out into the community.

For me it depends on my own forum, depending on how active it is I can find hard or easy to find individuals I think are suitable for the position. The hardest time for me is after a fall in activity as the members I might have in mind may not be active anymore or became busy in other projects.

I have never advertised to search for a position and if someone approaches me saying that they can do a lot for my community and stuff, I tell them that they can do a lot as members too so if they join my community and stay engaging and helpful in that month I will then be happy to talk about it. So far no one has stuck with me for a month. You need people that will be with you during the forums low, instead of people that will threaten to quit if the activity doesn't pick up, so my recommendation to anyone is to make sure the person is already invested in your community before making them a staff member.

I once made a thread in my community, mostly for my own members to register their interest. I had been the only staff for over two years so I figured getting some help would be fine. It worked alright, and I was surprised by the people who wanted to help and who didn't touch it so I ended with people who had no previous experience at all (my community was their first or second forum ever) and I mini trained them. It was actually a pretty fun activity.

Anyway, don't sweat it, if your forum is not active enough to grab someone else, most likely you can deal with it yourself for a while, so focus on getting loyal members and reap from there. If you already have a member that is kind, helpful, active and above everything someone you feel worthy of your trust, contact them. Even if you train it yourself you will get someone with genuine care for your community. 🙂

I'm having a hard time even trying to get my present staff members to contribute anymore. The fact is that if your members aren't at least lurking, then they're more often than not uninterested in your forum.

Yeah same here, I have one other guy that we do get along just as fine, And we meet years ago on an ding forum. One day I said about opening an website and he joined ever since as an staff.

Now he's not a bit interested and he's into other things like gaming with other people.

do you any place (out of forumpromotion job center) where i could find someone to hire? 🙂

Just post and wait. Add as much information and show the people of what position they get.

I find it a waiting game

It's only FP unfortunately. Unless you post paid option on other websites like job centre
