Yo,

I'm currently running a $20 VPS at 4GB ram.

Now, before you freak out, this was a MAJOR, MAJOR, MAJOR deal brought down from $120.

It is a 2GHz Quad Core vCPU.

(I think...)

Anyway, on to the point. This is WAY to much than what I need. The company I'm with charges more than I'm paying for lower stats.

I need two servers.

One for serving websites, and one for serving mail and providing webmail.

How low of a box can I go for the web?

512MB?

I need a min of 512 for the mail because of the webmail part of it, but how low can I go for the web box?

Thanks.

Is it OK to use openvz for web serving/mail serving?

I find i can run a small webserver very well with only 256mb of ram but that is is for internal use only. For email server I don't really know.

I hope that helps
Regards,
Patrick

A full email server? What is the reason for this change? Also note, since you are on a virtual box, you can always upgrade easily. So I would suggest start small and move up as you "expand." Though, email servers do use a lot of resources, though in small bursts.

If your sites get low to medium amounts of traffic you can try shared web hosting.

A lot of shared web host offer bundled webmail services as well.

The only problem with shared hosting accounts is the hosting company's TOS probably prohibits that type of thing. Usually shared hosting accounts are against any sort of service hosting / providing website. This includes webmail and picture / video hosting.
