How many sponsored ads on a blog or forum?

What's the upper limit of sponsor ads for your site, blog or forum, (banner/text links sold to private advertisers, not Adsense)?

Do you restrict ad space on your homepage to just one sponsored banner ad or allow numerous ads to be placed on the home page, above the fold?

I only put max 2-3 sponsored ads on my websites. More than that makes my website (or any other website) unprofessional.
