How many threads do you think an owner should make on a daily basis? 1-5? 5-10? More?

Personally, I try to start up as many threads as I can when I'm on and if I see that my community is making threads as well, then I try to make more to continue to flow of content.

So, how about you though? How many threads do you start on a daily basis as an owner?

I've had days where I pushed out 10-15 threads daily and days where I have posted none. But the days I posted topics, are the most active days.

The day you stop posting completely, is the day your community is dying out. But I suppose all things must have an end sometime. So it's inevitable at some point.

@Cedric I agree. That’s also what causes users to lurk and not post when there’s nothin new to respond to. Do you think there should be a limit as to how many new threads a owner should post daily?

Honestly, only when I can think of something new.

But I do want to leave topics for other members to create as well, and don't want to "take all of the topics."

I wouldn't put a limit on it personally. Just make sure they're of good quality, not simple 1-2 sentences threads we often see.

If someone is too worried about posting too much topics as an admin, create a socket account and post some more. 🙂

The phrase "fake it till you make it" is often true and legit as long as you don't lose yourself to it.

can post like mad to get new threads going however it's hard if there is no members to get those threads to have replies in them hahahah

Completely agree. I don't want to take all the topics. I want to give others a chance to create threads as well. I am slowly working on some blog posts on the side via an XF blogs addon, but I also need to make some threads here and there that aren't blog posts.

I'm encouraging my staff to also post threads too, in their spare time, since they are volunteer.

even harder when you ahve no staff XD

The forum owner should be creating new threads on a consistent basis to encourage forum activity. I would say at least 5 new threads per day, and this is at any stage of the forum's existence.

I don't think there is any specific number that you MUST do, it's going to be tied to your personal goals and community. But a steady stream of new activity is healthy for a thriving community

I have a "Most Recent Posts" widget at the top of my forum showing the last 5 threads with activity. I try to make sure that all the threads in this widget are less than 24 hours old. That determines how much I have to post.

At least 1-2 if not more. The more active you are, the better. Members like to see owners that participate in discussions.

If your just starting out 1-2 threads should be fine, and create a couple threads for each section before you start promoting.

I don't think the owner of a site should be starting threads daily except the site is very new. His work is administrative and members are supposed to be the ones to start threads. Maybe one new thread once in a while.

I do agree that daily posting doesn’t need to happen. However, owner and staff lead by example, so if they’re not creating new content, why should the members create new content? Everyone plays a part in community building and breathing life into the community.

The foundation will break apart without new content.

As an owner, you can never expect everyone else to do this part. You need to play a role in creating discussions. Still, there’s no set standard. It varies depending on the community. Some are well established and have new discussions naturally flowing.

It depends, there's no specific amount. I would try myself to do at least 10 threads per day and have an active engagement with other members within these threads. Anyway, if no one is replying to the threads, then it makes little sense to create tons of them.

It depends on the free time that they've got. Starting new topics or threads requires a bit of research when it is a forum that got some technical aspect of it.

This means the site owner should set a realistic target of 3 - 5 new topics daily and at worst 2 per day.

In the beginning, I think the owner, as well as the rest of the staff, should be doing a lot more to help get discussions started and get the ball rolling. As the site grows and there's more members to help create content, I think the owner can step back a little bit and let their staff and their members start more of those conversations and generate the content on the site, but I still think they should maintain an active role in the site. Maybe not necessarily starting new threads, but at the very least, contributing to conversations on the site to maintain an active presence in the community and keep things active.

very active I say good as much as you can, then again want the members to post more so then admins

Admins should interact with the members and actively engage in discussions to generate more content. This way they will keep the activity up, and well, it's nice to see staff posting. It would most likely increase the chances of members staying in the long run.
